How do I use the chat?
Please follow the following steps;
1: Download the latest version of Pidgin from our FTP server
2: Run and install the program. when done start it from the shortcut on the program menu if you did not tick the box to run it automaticaly
3: You will need to register with the Unilag XMPP server if you do not yet have an account. It is easy to do this and the details required are;
- Your username - you are encouraged to use the username part of your e-mail address for easy identification i.e username@unilag.edu.ng
- Domain is unilag.edu.ng
- Choose a password
- Register. You only need to do this the first time you connect to the Jabber server. After this you just simply log on no matter which machine you may be using
- Add contacts using username@domain. e.g support@unilag.edu.ng and start messaging.
When you are all set and chatting, consider filling out your information in the user directory. Under the "Accounts" menu on the top bar, select "Set user Info" to enter your details.
You can also use the conference facility for group chats. These conferences can be made private or completely anonymous when the room is created. Join a chat to create a room or enter an existing room if you know the name.
